Three new titles released by Kalima Translation Project
The Kalima Translation Project (Kalima means ‘word’ in Arabic) is an Abu Dhabi based cultural initiative which is organised by the ADACH (The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage) and is directly funded by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan who is the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. Its aims are to promote culture by the translation, publication and dissemination of written works from other cultures and languages into Arabic. The Kalima Translation Project has just reported the release of three recent translations to add to its corpus of already translated material; the works are:
“The Fundamentals of Language” by Roman Jacobson and Moris Halle. This work is generally considered somewhat of a masterpiece by those in the linguistic and human sciences fields; although the work is made up of only two articles, such is the work’s depth and poignancy that even a paragraph can contain the nucleus of a complete and discrete line of research in these fields.
“Age of Turbulence” by Alan Greenspan. This is, of course, authored by the long time President of the Federal Reserve and is essentially a partly autobiographical work set against the backdrop of Greenspan’s early life and later career at the Federal Reserve. The book then reviews and makes judgements upon the major occurrences that took place during this later Federal Reserve period.
“Clash within Civilizations” by Dieter Senghaas. This is an analysis and comment upon the contemporary issues of multi-culturalism, culture clash and the possibilities of cross cultural co-operation and understanding.
We wish the Kalima project well with all future translations and publications.
